Gundam is a popular Japanese anime franchise about giant robots fighting wars in space and on Earth. The franchise has also spawned video games and plastic models. Japan has a number of Gundam robots, including a giant moving Gundam at the Gundam Factory Yokohama and a massive Gundam statue that will be featured at the 2025 World Expo:

  • Gundam Factory Yokohama: This entertainment complex in Yokohama, Japan featured a 60-foot-tall, moving Gundam robot from the Gundam animated franchise:

    • The Gundam was the first moving mech of its kind, but it was more like a puppet because it was supported by an armature connected to its back.

    • The Gundam had 36 movable parts and could step out of its dock and make various poses.

    • The exhibition opened in December 2020 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Gundam franchise and was originally scheduled to close in March 2022. However, it was extended twice due to fan demand and closed on March 31, 2024.

    • Over 1.75 million people visited the site during the exhibition.

  • 2025 World Expo: A massive Gundam robot statue will be featured at the 2025 World Expo.
